Memorial Day is more than a three-day weekend. Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a federal holiday. A day for honoring and mourning the loss of the US Armed Forces members who died while serving our country.
The holiday’s exact origins are uncertain, but it came out of Civil War traditions of decorating the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. Many cities and individuals claimed to have been the first to celebrate the event. In 1868, General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic called for a “Decoration Day”, which was widely celebrated. By 1890, every Northern state had adopted it as a holiday. The World Wars turned it into a generalized day of remembrance, instead of just for the Civil War. In 1971, Congress standardized the holiday as “Memorial Day” and changed its observance. Wiki
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

People and businesses alike celebrate Memorial Day in the United State. Many businesses are closed to allow their workers to have a long weekend. People then take advantage of the time off to get away or have friends and family over to cook out on the grill.
Another way a business will celebrate is by running sales. Since people are not at work, shopping online while at home relaxing is a great way to indulge in the sales. We are no different here at Etched Designs, as we are having a 30% off sale currently. Use the coupon code “memday30” in the box on the shopping cart to Save 30%. This coupon will work on sale items as well.
So while you are celebrating this weekend, please remember to stay safe. Don’t overdo your activities and always remember why we celebrate.
